I’m Liz Lewis, a freelance writer, wife, mother, and self-appointed CEO of my home.
I was researching how to be an ADHD parent dealing with an ADHD/SPD child, and I noticed that all the message boards were a total downer. Everyone looked at having ADHD as a negative. There is still a lot of stigma attached to the diagnosis.
Most of the other professional websites geared toward ADHD are owned by published authors and doctors, so they are not really focused on discussing ADHD as a lifestyle. A crazy, disorganized, eccentric lifestyle.
There is a lack of positive, entertaining resources for women living, laughing and parenting with ADHD. Focused or unfocused, we look at life a little differently, but it’s still life.
Looking at some of the amazing DIY and mom bloggers I think “wow, they make it look so easy!” But for most of us, that is just not the case. We don’t all have the time to tackle those exciting projects, home improvements, and adorable family photo sessions.
I can barely get my kid to put on his shirt right side out most mornings. Preparing balanced meals is important to me, but I cannot spend hours in the kitchen. Don’t even get me started on the laundry.
Women spend so much time beating themselves up. Women living with ADHD beat themselves up even more. “We don’t look the right way”, “our house doesn’t look the right way”, “our children don’t behave the way we want them to”… I want to take away some of this negativity and replace it with some positive energy, a stronger sense of community support, and some good laughs.
Through understanding, encouragement and laughter, I provide a dose of healthy distraction from our daily lives. I understand what it is like to be a wife, mother, working professional, and homemaker trying to make it through her day.
